style cuddle's food & drink guide to nyc

having lived in brooklyn for 5 years, i get a lot of requests from visitors about spots to go for eating, drinking & shopping in nyc.  i know that whenever i travel, i like to experience the city or town like a local & imagine what it must feel like to live there.  where ever i go, i love going off the beaten path for a cozy cocktail, a delicious appetizer or a fun dinner out. so, for anyone coming to nyc (or even if you live there!), here are a few of my picks.  i could go on forever - but here are a few to get you started.

1. for wine & apps, black mountain wine house
415 union street, brooklyn, ny 11231
2. for a morning coffee (stumptown!) & croissant, cafe pedlar in cobble hill, brooklyn
210 court st, brooklyn, ny 11201

.....and cafe pedlar from the inside, such a wonderful gem in the morning:

3. cafe habana for cheap eats
sure, cafe habana in soho is in most guidebooks (for a reason!), but it's their brooklyn spot, habana outpost (open only during the summer) that's a fun spot for a warm sunny day.  it's steps away from the brooklyn academy of music and a few short blocks from fort greene park.
757 fulton st, brooklyn, ny 11217

4. the general greene for the best bloody mary's & brunch
229 dekalb ave. brooklyn, ny 11205

5. for an intimate bite head to buvette
i adore the west village.  if i had to live in manhattan, it would be in one of the west village's signature town house with a cascading stoop, a brightly colored door & darling flowers that gives this neighborhood it's charm.  i adore buvette for a bite to eat in between shopping and meetings.
42 grove st, new york, ny 10014

6. yummm guac & margs
guacamole and a salty margarita is one of my favorite combinations.  in brooklyn i love la superior - the chips are the freshest & most delicious i have ever had, you might remember me raving about them a few months ago.  in manhattan, it's cowgirl nyc for me.  maybe cause it was one of the very first spot i went to when i first moved to nyc in 2008.
cowgirl nyc, 519 hudson st, manhattan, ny 10014
la superior, 295 berry St, brooklyn, ny 11211

7. sometimes all ya want are lattes & location
i love joe coffee.  they have locations across the city, but one of my favorite things to do is grab a latte to go & stroll over to washington square park to people watch. they also have the best erm, do i say it, 'curation' of baked goods including goodies from dough & balthazar.
joe coffee, 141 waverly place, new york, ny

8. cocktails with a twist
love the vibe at weather up.  i frequent both their nyc locations - in tribeca, manhattan & in prospect hieghts, brooklyn. it's the perfect date spot.
tribeca: 159 duane street, new york 10013
prospect heights: 589 vanderbilt avenue, brooklyn 11238

9. for a cheap pitcher of beer & bowling head over to the gutter
sure brooklyn bowl is just around the corner, but i gotta say, their decor is a little tgi friday's-esque.  my advice, head over to the gutter instead for something more authentic and just a way more awesome atmosphere.
the gutter, 200 n 14th st, brooklyn, ny 11211

10. for a new york city dive bar experience - the turkey's nest
94 bedford ave, brooklyn, ny 11211
this place is for a down & dirty night where $6 margaritas are served in styrofoam cups.  need i say more?

not featured, but i also adore are:

clover club (for dinner & drinks),
frankie's (for dinner, but note they don't take reservations and it get's hella busy so head over on either the late or the early side)
buttermilk channel (another great brunch!)
cafe cluny
schillers
wilfie & nell

... & i feel like i'm forgetting a lot! a part 2 is in the works, for sure.

what are your favorite food & drink destinations in nyc?
